i recently got in a morality debate with some vegan and i really dont know how to combat them because yeah shouses are cruel but i believe we do need them for people who cant afford meat from farmers anyway to combat this?
This all falls under the assumption that morality is objective. Its a construct
I agree with vegans 100% that the way we hold animals is cruel. No debate in that. Humans still need meat so a good farm benefits both. Animals get shelter a life and food and at the end we get meat
You could say that inter-species morality is not objective. Ex: when a lion hunts a gazelle there are 2 options. He succeeds and he lives , it is a good for him but an evil for the gazelle. Or he fails , an evil for him and a good for the gazelle
empathy towards animals is a weakness that humans have developed (which is really bad) due to the agricultural revolution and the need for raising our own animals, creating a connection which was misplaced and originally meant for other humans, instead of wild ones, to support the growing population of humans
the tiger that's biting your leg off in the plains is not worrying about its cruelty. As humans are apex predators, we have no obligation to feel empathy for other animals. One that does feel that way is simply misplacing their empathy as a result of themselves not being shown any from others. You don't feel like being empathetic towards other people because they despise you, so you channel that e…
tell the vegan that morality is different for everyone and no one can truly assess whether something is 'right' or 'wrong'. give her examples of things that are incorrect in OUR society, but permissible in others. Ethics in general is a very manmade concept in the west. Just do what makes you happy. This logic can be used to defend YOUR arguement, but cannot defend theirs since no one actually WAN…
Vegans argue primarily against the industrialisation of animal slaughter and abuse. They are 100% right in this regard. Argue that farm raised and killed animals live happier lives than humans and then provide us with the essential nutrition to survive. If they still question the killing part, let them know that if they could kill us, they would, and they’d do it with no remorse. It’s basic nature…
