# Face Width to Height Ratio

Harmony · Front view · Face Shape · https://www.faceiqlabs.com/support/harmony/face-width-to-height-ratio

Cheekbone width divided by the height from brow level to the upper lip.

## What is measured

Calculation: Cheekbone width ÷ brow-to-upper-lip height

## Why it matters

It describes how broad the central face is for its height. The same cheekbone width produces a larger ratio when the brow-to-lip span is shorter, so both dimensions need to be read together.

- Lower: narrower cheeks, a taller central face, or both.
- Higher: wider cheeks, a shorter central face, or both.

## Where the idea comes from

Evidence: FaceIQ adaptation. Width-to-height measurements are used in facial anthropometry. Definitions of facial height vary between studies; FaceIQ specifically uses the brow reference and Cupid’s bow, so published values using other endpoints are not interchangeable.

## A worked example

140 units of cheek width ÷ 70 units of central height = 2.00. At the same width, a height of 80 gives 1.75.

Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range.

## How to read your result

Do not confuse this with total facial height-to-width. Brow position and the upper-lip landmark affect this result.

## Research & further reading

These sources explain the history or related evidence. FaceIQ’s score weights and reference ranges are model settings; the papers do not collectively validate the scoring system.

- Farkas et al. (2005). [International anthropometric study of facial morphology in various ethnic groups/races](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16077306/). Documents variation in facial dimensions across sampled populations. Descriptive measurements explain variation; they do not establish an attractiveness score.
