# Intercanthal-Nasal Width Ratio

Harmony · Front view · Nose · https://www.faceiqlabs.com/support/harmony/intercanthal-nasal-width-ratio

Nose-base width divided by the gap between the inner eye corners.

## What is measured

Calculation: Alar nose width ÷ inner-eye-corner distance

## Why it matters

It relates the nose to the eye region immediately above it. A wider nose and a narrower inner-eye gap both increase the number, so the result cannot identify either feature in isolation.

- Below 1: the nose base is narrower than the inner-eye gap.
- Above 1: the nose base is wider than the inner-eye gap.

## Where the idea comes from

Evidence: Classical proportion. The comparison between nasal width and inner-eye spacing is a classical proportion canon. FaceIQ divides nose width by eye gap; check the order when comparing with other sources.

## A worked example

A nose 35 units wide and inner-eye gap of 32 give 35 ÷ 32 ≈ 1.09.

Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range.

## How to read your result

Use the outer edges of the nasal wings rather than the nostril openings. Population variation is substantial.

Tested nine traditional proportion rules against measured faces. Useful history for facial thirds and width comparisons; classical rules are not universal targets.

Documents variation in facial dimensions across sampled populations. Descriptive measurements explain variation; they do not establish an attractiveness score.
