# Jaw Frontal Angle

Harmony · Front view · Jaw · https://www.faceiqlabs.com/support/harmony/jaw-frontal-angle

The angle relationship between the left and right lower jaw borders seen from the front.

## What is measured

Calculation: 180° − angle between the two gonion-to-chin-border directions

## Why it matters

It describes lower-face taper rather than jaw width alone. A change in chin width or the height of the jaw corners can change the direction of these borders.

- Lower: more steeply descending jaw borders in this construction.
- Higher: flatter lower-jaw borders in this construction.

## Where the idea comes from

Evidence: FaceIQ adaptation. This is a FaceIQ landmark-based description of facial shape. The linked research provides background on facial measurement or perception; it has not directly validated this exact formula or its score.

## A worked example

If the angle between the two directed jaw-border segments is 90°, the reported supplementary angle is also 90°.

Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range.

## How to read your result

This is a frontal construction, not the side-profile gonial angle. The diagram extends the jaw borders to show their intersection.

## Research & further reading

These sources explain the history or related evidence. FaceIQ’s score weights and reference ranges are model settings; the papers do not collectively validate the scoring system.

- Farkas et al. (2005). [International anthropometric study of facial morphology in various ethnic groups/races](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16077306/). Documents variation in facial dimensions across sampled populations. Descriptive measurements explain variation; they do not establish an attractiveness score.
