# Lower Lip to Upper Lip Ratio

Harmony · Front view · Mouth · https://www.faceiqlabs.com/support/harmony/lower-lip-to-upper-lip-ratio

The visible height of the lower lip compared with the upper lip.

## What is measured

Calculation: Mouth-seam-to-lower-lip height ÷ Cupid’s-bow-to-mouth-seam height

## Why it matters

This separates relative lip balance from overall fullness. Two mouths can have the same total lip height but distribute it differently between upper and lower lips.

- Below 1: the upper lip is taller than the lower lip.
- Above 1: the lower lip is taller than the upper lip.

## Where the idea comes from

Evidence: FaceIQ adaptation. Upper and lower lip dimensions belong to anthropometric lip analysis. Research describes variation by age and sex; it does not establish 1.618 or another single ratio as universally ideal.

## A worked example

A lower lip 9 units tall and upper lip 6 units tall give 1.5. Enlarging both proportionally leaves that ratio unchanged.

Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range.

## How to read your result

Keep lips gently together without pursing. Lip liner and the Cupid’s-bow landmark can change apparent upper-lip height.

## Research & further reading

These sources explain the history or related evidence. FaceIQ’s score weights and reference ranges are model settings; the papers do not collectively validate the scoring system.

- Gibelli et al. (2015). [A Quantitative Analysis of Lip Aesthetics: The Influence of Gender and Aging](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25948067/). Measured lip area, volume and thickness across sex and age groups. This describes lip morphology; it does not establish a universally attractive lower-to-upper lip ratio.
