# Mouth Corner Position

Harmony · Front view · Mouth · https://www.faceiqlabs.com/support/harmony/mouth-corner-position

Average vertical position of the mouth corners relative to the central mouth seam.

## What is measured

Calculation: Mean of (mouth-center y − corner y) × photo scale

## Why it matters

This describes the resting direction of the mouth outline. It differs from symmetry: both corners can be equally downturned, or opposite offsets can cancel in the average.

- Negative: corners sit below the central seam on average.
- Positive: corners sit above the central seam on average.

## Where the idea comes from

Evidence: FaceIQ adaptation. This is a FaceIQ landmark-based description of facial shape. The linked research provides background on facial measurement or perception; it has not directly validated this exact formula or its score.

## A worked example

Corners 1 mm and 3 mm above the center average +2 mm. Corners at +2 and −2 mm average zero despite asymmetry.

Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range.

## How to read your result

Use a neutral expression. This number is a contour measurement and does not describe mood.

Millimeters are approximate: FaceIQ scales the photo using an assumed 190 mm hairline-to-chin height, so these are estimates, not calibrated physical measurements.

## Research & further reading

These sources explain the history or related evidence. FaceIQ’s score weights and reference ranges are model settings; the papers do not collectively validate the scoring system.

- Gibelli et al. (2015). [A Quantitative Analysis of Lip Aesthetics: The Influence of Gender and Aging](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25948067/). Measured lip area, volume and thickness across sex and age groups. This describes lip morphology; it does not establish a universally attractive lower-to-upper lip ratio.
