# Nose Tip Rotation Angle

Harmony · Side view · Nose · https://www.faceiqlabs.com/support/harmony/nose-tip-rotation-angle

The direction of the nose underside relative to the Frankfort reference.

## What is measured

Calculation: Signed angle between subnasale–columella and porion–orbitale directions

Nasion means the nasal root, subnasale the nose base, and pogonion the most forward chin point. Frankfort refers to the direction from the ear-opening landmark to the lower orbital landmark.

## Why it matters

It describes the tilt of the underside without using the upper lip as an angle arm. This separates some of the lip influence found in the nasolabial angle.

- Negative in the app: the columella landmark lies below the nose base.
- Positive in the app: the columella lies above the nose base, with magnitude set by the reference angle.

## Where the idea comes from

Evidence: FaceIQ adaptation. Nose rotation has been studied with reference directions intended to reduce lip-position effects. FaceIQ compares the nose-base-to-columella segment with the Frankfort direction.

## A worked example

An underside direction 15° above a level Frankfort reference gives approximately +15° in the oriented profile.

Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range.

## How to read your result

This is not the nasolabial angle. Both the nose underside and Frankfort landmarks need consistent placement.

## Research & further reading

These sources explain the history or related evidence. FaceIQ’s score weights and reference ranges are model settings; the papers do not collectively validate the scoring system.

The authors emphasized individual facial harmony; this is context for feature relationships, not a test of every brow metric.
