In these guides, nasion means the nasal root, subnasale the nose base, and pogonion the most forward chin point. Frankfort refers to the direction from the ear-opening landmark to the lower orbital landmark.

Why it matters

This links three regions of the side face. The ear, nasal wing and eyelid positions all affect the opening of the angle, providing context about their arrangement.

  • Lower: the ear and eyelid directions form a more closed angle.
  • Higher: those directions spread farther apart.
