In these guides, nasion means the nasal root, subnasale the nose base, and pogonion the most forward chin point. Frankfort refers to the direction from the ear-opening landmark to the lower orbital landmark.

Why it matters

This compares front-to-back reach with a vertical profile span. It can help describe a deep, compact profile, but the distances are straight segments and are influenced by all four landmarks.

  • Lower: less ear-to-base depth relative to the reference height.
  • Higher: greater depth relative to the reference height.

A worked example

A depth of 105 units and reference height of 100 give 1.05. With height increased to 115, the ratio becomes 0.91.
