Why it matters

It relates the nose to the eye region immediately above it. A wider nose and a narrower inner-eye gap both increase the number, so the result cannot identify either feature in isolation.

  • Below 1: the nose base is narrower than the inner-eye gap.
  • Above 1: the nose base is wider than the inner-eye gap.

Where the idea comes from

Classical proportion

The comparison between nasal width and inner-eye spacing is a classical proportion canon. FaceIQ divides nose width by eye gap; check the order when comparing with other sources. [1] [2]

A worked example

A nose 35 units wide and inner-eye gap of 32 give 35 ÷ 32 ≈ 1.09.
