Jaw Slope
The angle where the cheek-to-jaw-side line meets the lower jaw border, averaged across both sides.
What is measured
The calculation
Mean interior angle at each intersection of cheek–gonion and gonion–chin lines

Why it matters
It describes the change in direction around the frontal jaw corner. A sharper turn and a more open turn create different lower-face contours even at similar jaw widths.
- Lower: a more closed corner between the two border directions.
- Higher: a more open, straighter transition at that corner.
Where the idea comes from
FaceIQ adaptation
This is a FaceIQ landmark-based description of facial shape. The linked research provides background on facial measurement or perception; it has not directly validated this exact formula or its score. [1]
A worked example
A left-side angle of 138° and a right-side angle of 144° average 141°.
Example values explain the calculation. They are not a target range and are not measurements of the schematic above.

The sources below explain the history or related evidence. FaceIQ’s score weights and reference ranges are model settings; these papers do not collectively validate the scoring system.
