Why it matters
This captures the overall length of the face rather than just the central region. It helps distinguish a longer outline from a broader one, even when local eye, nose and lip proportions are similar.
- Lower: a shorter or broader overall outline.
- Higher: a longer or narrower overall outline.

A worked example
A face 189 units tall and 140 wide has a ratio of 1.35. Increasing height to 210 at the same width gives 1.50.
